C6 Z06 Internals in a C5 Differential

This was a rebuild of a standard, 3-rib C5 differential using stronger C6 Z06 internal parts. A lot of the drag-racing guys upgrade their C5 differential with hardened output shafts (300M) and better clutches but did you know you can have something pretty stout with C6 Z06 internals? They cost less than the 300M shafts and hold up incredibly well at the strip.

The C6 Z06 driver’s side shaft (top) is thicker all the way across compared to the stock C5 shaft (bottom).

The C5 sintered bronze clutches (top) and C6 Z06 clutches and heavy duty spring (bottom). Not visible in the photo, but the spring is much larger than C5′s.

Compare the C6 Z06 pinion carrier (left) to the C5 pinion carrier (right). It is much beefier and the rear pinion bearing is larger as well.
